It was not without cause that God spoke to Israel saying “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14″ Yet we cannot make the connection thousands of years later and identify the root causes to the problems in this country and in the world. The rejection of truth has placed this world at odds with its creator, and we are now reaping the reward of our disobedience. The things spoken to the people of Israel are also recorded for our benefit as well.
16 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
17 And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:
22 So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
23 And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
24 Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
25 Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
26 For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:
27 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
28 And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.
29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:
5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
9 And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
Our decisions to follow our own desires and the actions we have taken in rejecting the Word of God has opened the door for these catastrophes to happen. When the angels delivered lot from Sodom, they did it in haste, Lot was the last righteous man restraining the judgement of God on that Land. Beloved, please consider the fact that God did not go down and speak to them, He did not send a messenger like he did with Jonah to Nineveh, He went to Abraham and said that He was going to wipe it out. We must intercede for this land! God’s character is perfect and has no need to change. He is true to His Word and you can know His will by feeding on the Word of God daily. The eyes of the Church must be opened and it must cry out in intercession for the people of this land.
God said it was within our capacity to understand His Word and His will. We must choose to humble ourselves and do so.

II Kings 2
19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.
20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
This passage illustrates one of many instances in God’s Word concerning the prophetic office. We see an example of restoration. In this case the waters were healed and a valuable message delivered. What was the message?
All about relationships, rivers of life need to be coming out of me, not death. We may look ok but if life is not coming out of us, then we must evaluate our relationship with the Lord. The land and water relationship was to be one of life, and although things looked ok, there was something lost.
Break it down it simple terms
The water was to bring life to the land. Understand the standard, God’s expectation
Acknowledge that things appear ok, but that there is a problem confess/acknowledge short coming
Bring me a new cruse obey and the cruse symbolizes the christian vessel of the Lord
Put salt in it salt has several symbolic meanings, obey also
Elisha went and cast it in the prophet takes responsibility to preform the action
Elisha said “The Lord has healed these waters…..” God does the restoring work, Elisha did it in His name
Once again, the miricale comes through obedience, they did what Elisha asked (no arguments or questions)
God used what they had to work with, He needed them to let Him have it and trust Him
They must have had this as it was given to Elisha as requested: simple as it was, they did their part
Isn’t it awesome that the Lord can work with what we are, where we are, and what we have: it is that simple
(ask the boy with loaves and fishes)
The new cruse, a new vessel to carry the healing substance (this was symbolic not substance)
We are the vessels that God fills to carry out His restorative work on Earth
We need newness and refreshing, not to let our relationship go stale, we are cleansed by the blood and washed daily by His Word
You see the Apostles in Acts, setting the priority of staying in prayer and ministry of the word.
Salt has had many meanings in the Bible, it preserves, it adds savor to something, it has useful physical properties, cleansing
We must guard our relationship with the Lord, we must set a premium on eschewing evil and those things that God hates
We need freshness and savor in our Christian life, it is not a burden, if you think being a Christian is dull, you need to review your stand in Christ, if reading the Bible is not a desire, you need to tell God and ask Him to make it an awesome experience to you
This is all about relationship, the water was supposed to bring life to the land, that relationship was lost and the prophet (Elisha in this case casting the salt into the water) brought this relationship back into being. Our relationship with the Lord is to be a living, dynamic, and exciting experience. In prayer, in reading His Word, in worship, in being zealous to doing His will.
Elisha is mindful to stand in the place God set him and give God the glory for doing the work through him.
They understood the message, unlike the disciples after the parable of the sower, no one here had to ask what it meant.
Beloved, all my love
The hand of the Lord be upon you
14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
17 For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
18 And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.
19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
20 If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
21 And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
23 Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
24 And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
I was reminded today…..
When I was in my early 20’s, I went to see Empire Strikes Back. I remember that there were a group of kids that had spent the night at the ticket box so they could get in first. It did not phase me then. I had remembered folk in high school talking about waiting a day and 1/2 to get tickets to a concert. Then we just had the recent PS3 sales where I spoke to a young man in his 20’s who was waiting/camping out at Target for 3 days to get a PS3. Today I read where a mother and her small child were waiting in line for over a day with a day to go in order to get one of these new i-phones. It really hit me. What in the world ?????????????!!!! Is this that important to you? Is this truly what you serve and pay homage too. I have not seen anyone following after God on this order. In the New Testament we read about people following Jesus so far out of the towns taht they went days with out food and He had to do the bread and fish miracle thing. See John 6:1-14
Jesus is worth folling after! PS3’s and i-phones are not!
Where does my time go? My time, not work, not family obligations, pure free time. Answer, it goes to the things I love to do. Are you any different? What about the time that is not my free time? When I have to choose the thing to do, what gets sacrificed? Time reading the Bible to watch TV? Going to the house of God or fishing. Your time and your money go to the things that you love.
13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Do you remember the woman who actually died from water intoxification? Hold your wee for a wii contest. A group of people spending the better part of a day for the chance to win a video game.
Folks, you cannot break out of this bondage on your own. You need Jesus. You need an encounter with the Savior. It is not an equal time issue, a day with God a day with the world. The question is: What do you want?
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Where are you laying up treasure? Is it in the desires of the things of this world or the one to come, the heavenly kingdom.
For your sake be honest. Tell God and He will help you: deny it , and you get to deal with it your self. And guess what, you cannot deal with it by your self: no one can: NO…ONE…CAN.
Take heart and have hope, Jesus came to help us!
It is the only reason He came. He had no other purpose than our salvation: to destroy the works of satan over our lives that we were sold into.
I pray this word encourage you to seeking His Face and a deeper relationship with Him in prayer, the Word of God, and fellowship with like followers of Christ.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
The devil (the god of this world) cannot deliver. Only the Lord can, He is the One we need to serve.
II Samuel 11
We see a rich illustration of the believer and Christ in a story that makes one wonder about its place in God’s Word. But God uses the foolish things to confound the wise.
For Bathsheba and David to be together, her husband Uriah had to die. How awesome that in this tale of adultery and deceit that God can illustrate the extreme necessity of the believers need to be un-joined from this world: quite literally it be dead to him and he dead to it.
Many people argue that these types of stories are included in the Bible to show its impartiality, that may be one of God’s intended purposes; but the total focus of every Word, every story, every commandment is to point us to Jesus. There are many awful (sad and extreme) cases; think about Abraham following Sarah’s word to cast out the bondwoman and her son, that he would have no inheritance with Issac: the seed of promise.
Break this story down
David sees Bathsheba washing on the roof top
He calls for her (she is brought to him)
She is joined to and must be separated from another before they can legally be together (Uriah must die)
Bathsheba is finally brought to be with him for the duration of his time (Son born is Solomon:next King)
The Lord is attracted to us when He see us us setting our hearts to doing His will. We prepare and come to Him. Look at the example of Rebekah and Issac: the 10 virgins. We must be separated from this world. We will have a final place with Him forever.
How did it feel to Bathsheba when some one came to her door and said the King has summoned you, he wants you.
Believer in Christ; the King wants you. He wants you to fellowship with Him now and forever.
